Joanna Matczuk, LL.M. Advocate. Partner.
Ms. Matczuk, together with Mr. Sikorski, co-manages the SMM Legal Intellectual Property Team. An expert in copyright law, she specialises in copyright, unfair competition practices, new technologies, IT, the protection of brand, reputation and personal data (including Big Data).
Ms. Matczuk has extensive experience in providing advisory to clients from the publishing, training, advertising, HR and business sectors and to innovation-focused and knowledge-based companies. She has worked with major Polish law firms, was an in-house lawyer in a prestigious business publishing house and the Head of Legal in a NewTech company, dealing with Big Data and marketing tools. She has carried out a number of intellectual property law projects, including litigation, comprehensive due diligence, developing intellectual property right protection policies for clients, investments in technological start-ups and advisory to clients from creative sectors.
Alumna of Wrocław University, where she graduated from the Faculty of Law, Administration and Economics (having spent a year at Universität Mannheim/Fakultät für Rechtswissenschaft), Mr. Matczuk gained her LL.M. in Intellectual Property from Queen Mary University of London and completed the German-Polish School of German Law (University of Wrocław/Humboldt Universität zu Berlin). Currently, she is a patent attorney trainee at the Polish Chamber of Patent Attorneys.
Ms. Matczuk sits on the editorial board of European Copyright and Design Reports, is a member of Intellectual Property Section at the Allerhand Institute, and a member of the Copyright Section and Industrial Property Law at the Warsaw Bar.
