Tomasz Andrzej Lewandowski, PhD, Senior Associate at SMM Legal, is among the lawyers awarded a special prize in the ‘Rising Stars’ Lawyers – Leaders of Tomorrow 2017, a prestigious competition organised by the Dziennik Gazeta Prawna, a specialist daily dedicated to legal issues, and Wolters Kluwer Polska, to distinguish outstanding lawyers aged under 35.
The jury decided to award Mr. Tomasz Lewandowski in recognition of his ability to combine work in a business environment and in academia. They stated that, as a lawyer and an academic, he is an excellent partner for clients representing research institutions. Apart from his versatile education and extensive professional experience, the jury also emphasized Mr. Lewandowski’s strong commitment to saving other people’s lives, confirmed by his long and consistent history of supporting blood donation and haemotherapy (despite his young age, the awardee has donated more than 22 litres of blood!)
Winner’s profile
Mr. Lewandowski’s chief areas of expertise include personal data protection and international law, which he teaches at the SWPS University of Social Sciences and Humanities. An expert on the implementation of advanced personal data protection systems, he also counsels Clients on adjustments to their operations to achieve regulatory compliance in the context of the Regulation on Personal Data Protection. As a specialist in international law, he handles cases involving investment arbitration and provides advisory on the risk of potential arbitration procedures against Poland.
On top of this, Mr. Lewandowski has been engaged in activities promoting human rights in the business context. He is also the author of numerous academic publications, and a principal investigator and researcher in research projects financed by the National Science Centre in Kraków and the European Commission.
