SMM Legal experts speak at major legal events

SMM Legal’s expertise is not limited to theory. Our specialists attend major conferences in Poland and abroad, sharing their knowledge and experience with others. This is just a brief snapshot of some of our key recent contributions.

Our Managing Partner, Prof. Maciej Mataczyński, spoke at a conference on the latest and the most extensive reform of the Code of Commercial Companies in the last 20 years. One of the key topics discussed included the new rules governing the work of supervisory boards.

On top of this, Prof. Maciej Mataczyński and Tomasz Jaranowski talked about the optimum implementation of Directive 2004/25 and the related amendments to legislation on tender offers for shares. Invited by Mr. Jacek Jastrzębski, the President of the Polish Financial Supervisory Authority, they participated in a joint seminar organised by the Polish regulator and the Austrian Takeovers Commission in Vienna.

Our Energy Law Department specialists, on their part, focused on explaining the core concept of energy transition and spoke during important international events related to the green revolution.

Our expert lawyers, Michał Tarka and Mateusz Stańczyk, explained how to make the best use of the potential of decarbonised gases and how hydrogen can help our country to become independent from raw materials from Russia. They provided their valuable input at the Central European Hydrogen Technology Forum H2Poland organised at the site of the Poznań International Fair. Michał Tarka also spoke about the development perspectives for the biomethane market in Poland at the 5th National Biomethane Congress. Our Firm has been a legal partner for both events.

You will also find us attending key events in the business world. Prof. Maciej Mataczyński took part in a discussion on risk management in the digital work during the European Finance Congress. Additionally, Prof. Mataczyński, who heads the team responsible for the PKN ORLEN and Grupa LOTOS merger, shared some of his insights during the “Competition Protection Trends in Poland” conference.

Meanwhile, the head of our IP department, Prof. Rafał Sikorski, spoke at the international conference “Intellectual Property Statistics for Decision Makers” co-organised by the Polish Patent Office and PECD Statistics. Prof. Sikorski, who co-authored a chapter on Polish law in a Cambridge University Press publication entitled Injunctions in Patent Law. Trans-Atlantic Dialogues on Flexibility and Tailoring spoke about key matters related to Standard-Essential Patents.
