Held in Warsaw for the first time, the prestigious GGI EUROPEAN REGIONAL CONFERENCE took place from the 21st to 24th of April this year, at the InterContinental Hotel. The event was organised by the Geneva Group International (GGI) – one of the leading global associations of independent law, accounting, tax, auditing and consulting firms.
SMM Legal, the only Polish law firm in the group, hosted the event, solidifying its position among the most distinguished experts worldwide.
The Conference agenda stretched over four intensive days and was packed with compelling presentations by the best specialists from around the world. Presentations by keynote speakers were preceded by a brief introduction and a welcome by Prof. Tomasz Sójka, Managing Partner at SMM Legal. Keynote lectures were delivered by Włodzimierz Cimoszewicz, PhD, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland, and Nenad Pacek, an outstanding European economist who has served for many years on the board of The Economist Group (Economist Intelligence Unit).
Specialists from SMM Legal also made major contributions to the substantive programme of the conference. Prof. Maciej Mataczyński, Managing Partner at SMM Legal, ran a workshop on recent changes in the control of foreign investment in Poland.
Jarosław Bełdowski, LL.M. PhD, a partner at our Firm, was invited by the leader of the Debt Collection, Restructuring and Insolvency working group to present his paper.
Meanwhile, Magdalena Michalska, legal advisor, gave a lecture to a working group dealing with Litigation and Dispute Resolution.
The conference ended with an official dinner followed by a ball at the Royal Castle in Warsaw that continued until early morning. Finally, Prof. Maciej Mataczyński, Managing Partner at SMM Legal, closed the event with a brief summary. International meetings of renowned specialists typically offer a unique forum for discussions between experts from the worlds of politics, academia and business, and the CGI Conference was no exception.
