The 19th ‘COMPREHENSIVE WASTE MANAGEMENT’ Conference, part of a series of conferences organised by ABRYS sp. z o.o. on the same subject, took place in Bydgoszcz from the 2nd to the 4th of September 2015. The conference focused on the question: ‘Investment plans – need or necessity?’ and was attended by nearly 200 specialists from across the country, including representatives of the Ministry in charge of waste management.
The speakers included Jędrzej Bujny, PhD, partner at SMM Legal, whose presentation looked at the issue of ‘Regional Waste Management Plans and investment plans in the new legal reality – obstacle or assistance?’ His lecture was part of the discussion on updates to the regional waste management plans. Conference participants raised a number of issues, such as the lack of an updated National Waste Management Plan, and the future of Regional Municipal Waste Processing Facilities (RIPOK), which before being recorded in the Regional Plan, need to be verified from the perspective of their effectiveness. One of the key postulates which came up during the discussion was the need to establish clear criteria that provincial governors could apply when classifying specific installations as RIPOKs.
The event included also a site tour of the Municipal Waste Thermal Processing Plant for the Metropolitan Area of Bydgoszcz and Toruń. The incinerator is one of the most advanced, state-of-the-art investments of its kind in Poland.
The conference also offered the possibility of informal professional discussion, as well as the exchange of opinions and experiences on comprehensive waste management.
